My question is about the Realtek rtlcu driver for the similiar name adapter, is there another possible way other then using the perfect instructions on a few websites for compiling this pesky driver? Just curious is all, thanks in advance Originally Posted by Cimaron.

RTLCU I agree with you on the installing the firmware. Debian during installation via usb stickI even installed Debian 8. The real question is why do I have to compile the rtlcu driver to the cu every time, because of falling off connections and low kbs speeds!

Am I missing something? For example I am in a low speed area at the moment, a sort of monopolized ISP, when I get the wireless adapter installed and working I get exactly 72kbs on every distro I install.

I am aware of the legal aspects of alot of the firmwares, have done a great deal of research before even attempting Linux. Just thought I would throw the question out there to learn something new about wireless and Linux, thanks again First, try the latest kernel 4. Second, investigate your dmesg to make sure correct firmware is present and loaded.GitHub is home to over 40 million developers working together to host and review code, manage projects, and build software together.

After using this Wifi dongle for a while i only have one thing to say: don't buy it if you plan to use it with linux.

It works quite well on a freshly booted PC. My workaround is to unbind and then rebind my USB bridges or what they are called, echo -n "xyz Reloading the eu kernel module actually make things worse.

From some to time the dongle won't authenticate to my wifi router, while other devices can. Furthermore, i have to reboot my router at least every days. The dongle is capable to DoS my wifi's router 2. New devices cannot connect. Authenticated devices won't retrieve any data anymore. That AP is still listed when scanned.

I'm not even mad - that's amazing! Rebooting my router preventive at night won't have any positive effect. I might have to reboot my router again the same day. My workaround so far: use another wifi dongle.

I'll probably gift this dongle to a person - i don't like. Hello everyone. I just found the solution. Atom topic feed.

I had the misfortune to buy two of these devices off ebay on the basis they were "compatible with linux, raspberry pi, and access point mode". I'm running Xbian on my Raspberry Pi using a wired ethernet link. But since there's no wifi in my room, I need to set up the pi as an access point in bridged mode. I've gotten as far as installing hostapd and bridge-utils but the device isn't recognised in 4. So after many hours of searching I finally found the kernel sources and headers, downloaded the driver source from github, and compiled the thing.

After I had the Before when I ran modprobe eu I got some errors. Now when I run modprobe eu I get nothing which I assume is a good thing. I have grabbed the hostapd sources and started to compile. Yet I cannot find where in the defconfig file I would tell it to find the new driver.

I have tried adding:. First are you sure you're using the EU chipset? Confirm with lsusb. You should see 0bdab somewhere. If not, then you have something else. Second, are you sure that wlan0 is your USB interface and not the built-in wifi or something else? Does it disappear when you remove the USB dongle?

Third, I'm pretty sure the only driver hostapd recognizes is 'nl' unless you're using some custom hostapdso that's why it's complaining about not knowing what eu is. Fourth, I haven't tried compiling hostapd, but when you say "I have grabbed the hostapd sources and started to compile. I have this chip working fine in STA mode. It's working quite well actually but I haven't been able to get it to work in AP mode. It's very simple, actually, but you need to be careful, since you're running on ARM.

What you do is after you install the kernel headers and other prerequisites, such as gccgit and make :. After that, you need to blacklist the built-in driver rtl8xxxu somewhere, if it loads.

The device won't work, if both drivers load at the same time. All in all, the driver works very well, out of the box, with hostapdno need for a special version of it, as some posts say. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top.
